About Ellen

Welcome bakers! My name is Ellen and I've been baking all of my life. I come from a family of amazing cooks and bakers including my Grandma Pauline, my Aunt Shirley and of course my mom, Harriett. I have great baker genes!

When I was a little girl, starting as young as 3 or 4, I would always help my mom in the kitchen when she was cooking and especially baking. Because of these early experiences, I had learned to bake brownies, cookies, cakes, and pies, but I had never made bread before.

I had a bread machine in the middle to late 1990s, and baked bread for my son's sandwiches regularly. I wasn't too adventurous in those days though. That bread machine only lasted 2-3 years. I went without one for about 5 years.

In the early 2000s, I decided I wanted a new bread machine because I had been having trouble finding bread and rolls that were safe for me to eat due to my food allergies. I bought a new Zojirushi and not only baked loaves of bread, but I eventually branched out into using the dough course to make rolls, cinnamon rolls, hamburger buns, etc. The members of several Facebook bread machine groups helped me so much!

After 30 years of teaching, I retired in 2018 and I began baking like a maniac. In 2021, I made a few videos of me measuring and weighing ingredients because I could see from Facebook posts that people needed help with that. When I posted them in Facebook bread machine groups, people started telling me I should start a YouTube channel and I just laughed and said that I was too old for that silliness. However, that idea began to take root and one day I set up my channel. Voila! I began to have subscribers! I develop all of my own recipes now and wow have I come up with some crazy good stuff! I hope you will find my website, partnered with my YouTube channel, an asset to your baking adventures. I welcome you to join the fun and passion of Bread Machine (and other types of) baking with me!

I dedicate this website to my grandma Pauline Hiller Shapiro, my aunt Shirley Shapiro Jay, and most of all, my beautiful, gifted, best friend and mom, Harriett Shapiro Walker. I feel their hands on mine whenever I am creating delicious things to eat. Their gifts to me are my gifts to you.
